Samsung's Galaxy Z Flip series has always tempted me more than the Z Fold. Maybe it's the flip-phone nostalgia taking hold; maybe it's the fact that I don't want to watch video inside a square; maybe it's simply the Z Flip's more palatable price. The Z Flip series has launched in tandem with the Z Fold for several years, but often with specifications that put it around the bottom of each flagship family, including the traditionally shaped Galaxy S family. As we mentioned in our Z Fold 6 review, there's more foldable competition than ever. In fact, in the face of Motorola's most recent foldables, while Samsung is doing something, is it enough? While Z Flip 6's design has remained largely the same, Samsung made several under-the-hood upgrades this year, with improved battery life and cameras.

Samsung wrapped up its summer Galaxy Unpacked event yesterday, and there weren't too many surprises. Leaks before the event pointed to fresh Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold phones, along with a pair of new watches and more info on the Galaxy Ring. What we got was... announcements of the Galaxy Z Flip 6, the Galaxy Z Fold 6, the Galaxy Watch 7, the Galaxy Watch Ultra and a proper unveil of the Galaxy Ring. Leakers -- is there anything they can't do? Perhaps the one surprise was news from Google that WearOS 5 will debut on the new Galaxy Watches before coming to over products later.

Samsung's latest Unpacked event will kick off on July 10th. The company has already released its latest flagship phones this year, unveiling the S24 family. The tiny wearable is slated to arrive "in or around August," so it would be more of a surprise if the device didn't appear at Unpacked. The ring will measure heart rate, movement and breathing to help track your sleep. I'm expecting the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6 to appear, although with minor tweaks that might not warrant an upgrade from last year's foldables.
